We discover more and more Gen AI use cases every day for all roles and industries and the field of product management and product managers are no exception.
As a product manager, I’ve always believed that one of our greatest strengths is adaptability. We navigate chaos, distill clarity, and support and lead teams toward creating real impact for both users and business. So when Generative AI (Gen AI) started gaining traction, I didn’t see it as a threat—I saw it as a massive opportunity to level up how we work.
Let’s face it, product management is demanding. Research, strategy, writing docs, prepping presentations, data analysis, prioritization, outcome definition, user interviews, experimentation, countless stakeholder meetings and the list keeps going. It’s easy to spend and fill up our days and calendars yet still not have enough time left for the critical and meaningful work. Gen AI can help with that.
Where We Are Today
A lot of product teams and product managers I talk to are already using Gen AI to some extent, at least individually. However, many more product teams and product managers are still somewhere between “experimenting” and “not sure where to start” with Gen AI. There is already an overwhelming amount of articles, tutorials, tools and things to try out and lots of new things come out every week.
I get it. It’s new. It’s moving fast. And it’s easy to think, “Cool demo, but is this for me? Is it even worth the effort?” There is also the fear that many roles, product management ones included, might be replaced to some extent. But I believe that mindset misses the point.
Gen AI is not here to replace us. It’s here to augment us—our thinking, our output, our decision-making, our speed. And as product people, we should be the ones leading the way in understanding GenAI’s capabilities and limits.
Why This Is an Opportunity for PMs
What excites me most about Gen AI isn’t just the productivity boost (though that’s real)—it’s the chance to amplify what product managers do best. We spend quite a bit of time on the operational grind and there’s not much left for creative and strategic thinking, discovery, reflection or other high-level work.
Gen AI can help with both “sides”.
- It gets us from raw research to insight faster.
- It supports brainstorming and exploration without needing to book a workshop.
- It drafts multiple versions of product docs, decks, or messaging in minutes.
- It even helps simulate conversations so we can walk in sharper.
- And it challenges our thinking—helping us ask better questions, sooner.
With AI taking on the repetitive and time-consuming tasks, we get to lean into the creative, strategic, high-leverage work. The kind that helps move teams and products forward.
So, How Do I Get Started on This Augmenting Road?
Here’s the truth: the most important thing right now isn’t becoming a prompt expert or building your own AI-powered product.
The most important thing is understanding what’s possible.
Because if you don’t know what GenAI can do—or where it fits into your workflow—you won’t see the opportunities to use it. You’ll miss chances to save time, to explore more options, to ship smarter.
That’s why I’ve been collecting over 50 practical examples and short GenAI tutorials specifically for product managers. These aren’t theoretical. They’re things I’ve tried or seen work: writing great prompts, generating customer insights, testing new product ideas, and even building internal tools using AI agents.
I believe the best way to learn GenAI is by doing—by experimenting, by failing fast, and by using it in real-world product situations. Not just watching a course. Not just saving a prompt template.
So if you want to start augmenting your work as a PM, I invite you to explore these examples. Try a few. Adapt them. Make them yours.
Because the future of product management isn’t just AI-powered.
It’s you, augmented.
